Latin American Women and Democracy: Perspectives of Activists in the Region
June 12, 2023 • 9:00 – 10:30 am EDT
As the internet has come to play an increasingly important role in politics and the global economy, calls have grown for government intervention and regulation. These calls raise important questions about the tradeoffs policymakers made in the early days of the internet to encourage its development and commercialization and whether the current digital landscape now requires a different approach.
This panel will take the early internet commercialization as a starting point to consider the questions facing policymakers today on content and privacy, and ask what future governance should look like.
