Online Event: GST Compensation to States

October 23, 2020 • 8:00 – 9:00 am EDT

Three years after its implementation, the center-state consensus mechanism central to India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) appears strained. With Covid-19 affecting GST collections, the issue of GST compensation has already caused a tussle between the center and several states. As Indian states take their pick from the two borrowing options provided by the center, bigger issues emerge on the path forward.

The CSIS Wadhwani Chair in U.S.-India Policy Studies is pleased to host key stakeholders to look at the current center-state compensation impasse and what the future may hold.

This event is made possible through general support to CSIS.
