Online Event: "Invisible China: How the Urban-Rural Divide Threatens China's Rise": A Book Talk

October 14, 2020 • 1:00 – 2:00 pm EDT

Please join us for this online event for the launch of the upcoming book, Invisible China: How the Urban-Rural Divide Threatens China’s Rise, by Scott Rozelle and Natalie Hell. China appears to have transformed itself from a place of stark poverty into a modern, urban, technologically savvy economic powerhouse. But the truth is much more complicated and should be a serious cause for concern. Drawing on 40 years of ground-breaking field research in China, Rozelle and Hell reveal that, while China may be the second-largest economy in the world, its labor force has one of the lowest levels of education of any comparable country, with a huge urban-rural divide that is not only an urgent humanitarian concern but could also upend China’s continued growth as well as economies around the globe.

Author Scott Rozelle will present the key findings of the new book. Senior Adviser and Trustee Chair Scott Kennedy will offer initial commentary and moderate Q&A with the audience.
