Online Event: Restarting the Economic Engine—A Multi-Sector Guide to Policies & Practices
Once Covid-19 begins to wane —and it will — communities around the U.S. and the globe will need to restart their economic engines. Doing so will require a mix of private sector grit, public sector priming, and civil sector convening. What actions should business executives, public policy makers, and civil society leaders take now to ensure we can come back stronger? What are the specific policies and practices they need to implement at the community- and ground-level?
Businesses from finance, logistics, energy, retail, technology, and more will have a role to play alongside public policy makers and civil society and faith leaders. Beyond bailouts and tax relief, these organizations and leaders will need to develop plans for restarting growth, rebuilding trust, and combating rumor and fake news — especially if, as is likely, we see a second wave of infections in the Fall. Communities from across the developed and developing world will need to wrestle with these issues and the time is now for leaders to come together and develop specific action plans for how to get consumers, small businesses, and whole communities back on their feet, back in the job market, and back in stores.
How can businesses and civil society work with faith leaders to strengthen social bonds, rebuild trust, and shore up our confidence in the economy and society as a whole after this bruising time? What do the data from past disasters tell us and what should we be doing now? What role can banks, logistics companies, grocers, and others play? And how should they work with local, regional, and national civil society?
