Peace and Security in Somalia
In March, Matt Bryden, executive chairman of Sahan Research, joined us to discuss the major political and structural impediments to holding a constitutional referendum and national elections in Somalia by the end of the year, when the federal government's mandate will expire. Join us for a follow-up conversation with Mr. Bryden as he shifts his focus to the concurrent security challenges in Somalia: the continued threat of Al-Shabaab, an overstretched AMISOM peacekeeping mission, and the complex task of security sector reform.
Mr. Bryden is the author of two recent CSIS reports: Somalia Redux? Assessing the New Somali Federal Government (2013) and The Reinvention of Al-Shabaab (2014).
This event is made possible by general support to the CSIS Africa Program.
