Food insecurity among U.S. veterans and military families is a national security concern: it multiplies stress on active-duty personnel, diminishes well-being among service members and their children—who are more likely to serve in the military as adults—and may hinder recruitment for the armed services.
Please join the CSIS Global Food Security Program (GFSP) on June 7th at 9 a.m. EDT for the launch of our newest brief, Solving Food Insecurity Among U.S. Veterans and Military Families, by GFSP research associate Jamie Lutz and GFSP director Caitlin Welsh. As direct service providers and the U.S. government respond to the short-term needs of veterans and military families, this brief puts forward long-term solutions to food insecurity in the U.S. military and veteran communities.
Featuring representatives from Congress, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Veterans Affairs, this online event will examine what is known about food security in the military and veteran communities, a history of efforts to address it through policy and legislation, and steps that may prove effective in addressing it in the long term.
This event is made possible through the generous support of the Bob Woodruff Foundation.
