Prospects for the Defense Budget in the New Administration

Monday, January 23, 2017 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
CSIS Headquarters

Test your prognostication skills with our defense budget prediction survey.

With Trump in the White House and Republican majorities in both chambers of Congress, many are expecting the defense budget to grow substantially in the coming years. But questions remain about how these plans will be implemented. What methods are available to increase, repeal, or circumvent the BCA budget caps? Can the reconciliation process be used for this? How much of an increase will be needed to fund Trump’s defense plans? What are the top defense priorities for Republicans in Congress? How does defense rank among other fiscal priorities in the Trump administration, such as tax cuts and infrastructure spending?  And what does all of this mean for defense acquisitions and the defense industry? This CSIS Defense360 panel discussion will help answer these questions and more.
