At CSIS, we believe that decision making processes that include diverse voices and perspectives lead to more ideas, more innovation, and more robust policy solutions. As a bipartisan think tank, it is on us to demonstrate that cultivating talent from different backgrounds, with different experiences, is ultimately in the best interest of our national security objectives.
The Biden administration released several executive orders, leading to the creation of inaugural offices among federal agencies charged with spotlighting the connection between diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility and foreign policy. In June 2022, the State Department appointed its first Special Representative for Racial Equity and Justice (SRREJ). Over the last year, Special Representative Desirée Cormier Smith led the Department’s efforts to protect and advance the human rights of people belonging to marginalized racial and ethnic communities and combat systemic racism, discrimination, and xenophobia around the world.
Please join CSIS in commemorating SRREJ’s one-year anniversary on Friday, June 30th, to delve into the importance of racial equity in foreign policy and diplomacy.
The event will conclude with a networking reception for in-person attendees.
This event is made possible through general support to CSIS.
