Regional Structures in the Asia-Pacific

Tuesday, January 18, 2005 8:45 am - 3:15 am

CSIS and the Embassy of Australia hosted an all-day seminar on Jan. 18 to explore trends in multilateralism in East Asia. Participants assessed implications of nascent regionalism on traditional political, economic, and security structures and discussed the appropriate U.S. role in their development. CSIS President and CEO John Hamre, CSIS Senior Vice President and International Security Program Director Kurt Campbell, and Australian Amb. Michael Thawley moderated. Special guest speakers included Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz, Deputy National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley, and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Richard Holbrooke.
