Report Launch: Mitigating Financial Access Challenges; Proposals from the CSIS Multi-Stakeholder Working Group on Financial Access

Nonprofit organizations operating in regions subject to sanctions, or in areas where designated terrorist organizations operate, experience significant difficulties transferring funds to support humanitarian programs. Financial access challenges, including those related to “de-risking", occur when financial institutions choose to forego transactions for nonprofit customers due to concerns over compliance with anti-money laundering (AML), combating the financing of terrorism (CFT), and sanctions regulations, or impose severe delays on these transactions and in turn on humanitarian programming.

To reconcile the recognition and interests of key stakeholders including donors, financial institutions and nonprofit organizations, the CSIS Humanitarian Agenda convened the Multi-stakeholder Working Group (MSWG) on Financial Access to build a shared understanding of the various issues and explore practical solutions to promote financial access for nonprofit organizations.

Please join the CSIS Humanitarian Agenda on Monday, November 14 at 9:30 a.m. EST for the launch of a report: Mitigating Financial Access Challenges. The panel will feature Sasha Bennett-Roomipoor, Chief of the Audit, Risk, and Performance Management Division at the USAID Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance; Sue Eckert, Former Senior Fellow of the CSIS Humanitarian Agenda; and Kate Phillips-Barrasso, Vice President of Global Policy and Advocacy at Mercy Corps. The discussion will include a brief on the report, and a moderated discussion on challenges and opportunities to enhance humanitarian financial access through improved stakeholder understanding, collaboration, and risk-sharing.
 
This event will be moderated by Jacob Kurtzer, former Director and Senior Fellow of the CSIS Humanitarian Agenda.
