Report Launch: The Role of Trust in Advancing Equity in Innovation
Brought to you by
A new study commissioned by Invent Together, an alliance focused on broadening participation in inventing and patenting, identified trust as a pivotal factor influencing an individual's decision to pursue a patent when they have an idea for a new product or technology. Titled "The Role of Trust in Advancing Equity in Innovation," it found that people who are more trusting are more likely to consider patenting and have more confidence in their ability to navigate the patenting process.
CSIS's Renewing American Innovation recognizes that a broader and more diverse patent base is a strategic advantage that the U.S. must encourage if it wishes to remain a global leader in innovation. As the study shows, the barriers to equity in innovation underscore the urgent need to build trust within the innovation ecosystem to safeguard U.S. global technology leadership. The study also provides a roadmap for closing inventor diversity gaps by increasing knowledge and awareness of patents and resources available to inventors, expanding access to service providers and resources for inventors, improving workplace culture, and adopting policies and practices at institutions that facilitate idea sharing.
Together with respected thought leaders, inventors, and researchers who worked on the study, CSIS and Invent Together are proud to convene a panel discussion highlighting the report’s findings and the next steps for policymakers, industry, and others. This event will be held at CSIS Headquarters at 1616 Rhode Island Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20036.
