A key consideration for realizing the benefits of the current boom in unconventional oil and gas development is making certain that supplies can reach demand centers. The pipelines and other infrastructure required to convey these resources involve not only federal and state regulations and environmental assessments but effective management of potential impacts on the communities through which they travel. Through this project, the CSIS Energy and National Security Program hopes to raise the overall level of understanding about the near, medium, and longer-term economic, environmental, and security impacts of the evolution of this infrastructure network for the United States, as well as North America and the broader global energy market.
