April 18, 2019 • 10:00 – 11:30 am EDT
The CSIS Southeast Asia Program is pleased to present Results of the Indonesian Elections: New Directions or More of the Same? a panel discussion featuring Dr. Ann Marie Murphy (Professor, Seton Hall University) and Adam Schwarz (Founder and CEO, Asia Group Advisors). Early results indicate that incumbent President Joko Widodo has secured a second term in office, following a massive election day that saw an estimated 193 million eligible voters in Indonesia elect their president, all 560 of the country’s members of parliament, and members of provincial and district legislatures. The Results of the Indonesian Elections: New Directions or More of the Same? event will assess the outcomes of these elections, and what a second Jokowi term will mean for Indonesian domestic politics, economic policy, foreign policy, and U.S.-Indonesia relations.

Dr. Ann Marie Murphy joined the School of Diplomacy and International Relations at Seton Hall University in 2004. Prior to joining the School of Diplomacy and International Relations, she taught at Columbia University and Barnard College. Concurrent with her appointment at the School of Diplomacy and International Relations, Dr. Murphy is a Senior Research Scholar at the Weatherhead East Asian Institute, Columbia University. At Columbia, Dr. Murphy chairs the University Seminar on Contemporary Southeast Asia. She has also been a visiting scholar at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, Jakarta, Indonesia, and the Institute for Security and International Studies, Bangkok, Thailand.

Adam Schwarz is Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Asia Group Advisors, where he counsels senior executives on business opportunities in key Southeast Asian markets and how to effectively manage political, economic, and security risks. Based in Southeast Asia since 1987, Mr. Schwarz has a deep set of relationships with business, political and civil-society leaders across the region and is considered a leading global authority on Indonesia.

This event was made possible through general support to CSIS.
