Revitalizing Relations After September 11
On May 15, Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Charlotte Beers spoke about plans to improve U.S.-Muslim relations through public diplomacy. Beers headlined a day-long CSIS conference entitled "The United States, Europe, and the Muslim World: Revitalizing Relations After September 11." The conference featured detailed policy discussions on the security, economic and cultural dimensions of relations between the West and the Islamic World. "We do not seek, as we think about Muslim Life in America and what we're going to do with it, to hold up one religion over another, or to inject ourselves into closely held personal faith; rather, we seek to recognize that this natural link is based on heritage, culture, and belief," said Beers.
