The Search for Peace in Northern Uganda

CSIS Africa Program hosted a symposium on the search for peace in Northern Uganda, on Tuesday, January 31, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at CSIS, 1800 K St., NW, in Room B, B-1 Conference level. This event featured Ms. Betty Bigombe, the key mediator in the peace process, discuss the history and current status of talks between the Lords Resistance Army (LRA) and the Government of Uganda. Special advisor to the president of the International Crisis Group John Pendergast outlined the regional implications of the conflict and options for United States and international involvement. Katherine Southwick, formerly of the Refugee Law Project in Uganda, concluded with an analysis of the role of the International Criminal Court in the conflict. CSIS Senior Associate Joel D. Barkan moderated this session.
