Seizing Education Opportunities with Indonesia

A CSIS Indonesia Initiative Event
Monday, April 15, 2013 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

A roundtable featuring
Putera Sampoerna
Chairman
Putera Sampoerna Foundation

Moderated by
Ted Osius
Senior State Department Visiting Fellow
Center for Strategic and International Studies

Monday, April 15, 2013
2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Please join us for a roundtable discussion with Mr. Putera Sampoerna, chairman of the Putera Sampoerna Foundation. Mr. Sampoerna's foundation supports academies that train low-income students to become Indonesia's future leaders. A philanthropist and innovative thinker, Sampoerna will discuss today's U.S.-Indonesia educational ties, women's empowerment, and entrepreneurship. After establishing numerous university linkages, "twinning" programs, and innovative financing mechanisms, Sampoerna's goal is to provide a quality education in the United States for tens of thousands of young Indonesians.

Mr. Sampoerna studied at the University of Houston, Texas, and has been involved in philanthropic work throughout ASEAN for over 25 years. He founded and currently directs the Sampoerna Strategic Group, which has a global portfolio of diversified businesses.

The CSIS Indonesia Initiative seeks to enhance understanding of Indonesia and create a forum for cultivating discussion of important policy questions relating to Indonesia’s foreign policy, security and political posture, trade and investment, and social issues.
