June 21, 2018 • 2:00 – 3:15 pm EDT

A conversation with the author, Dr. Gonzalo M. Quintero Saravia

Lafayette, Rochambeau, von Steuben—the iconic names of the foreign volunteers who fought in the struggle for independence are well-known to students of the American Revolution. However, the Spanish Empire’s support for the nascent Republic is often overlooked. In a comprehensive new biography, Gonzalo M. Quintero Saravia places the American Revolution in the context of a global imperial struggle by examining the life of Bernardo de Gálvez, the governor of Spanish Louisiana who funneled supplies and intelligence to the American rebels and personally led troops against British fortifications along the Gulf of Mexico. Join us as we welcome Dr. Quintero Saravia to share the story of the Spanish hero of the American Revolution and of the war as part of a much broader global conflict.
