Chen Chu is one of the most highly regarded figures in contemporary Taiwan. She has a long and storied career in politics, first as a human rights and democracy activist and then as an elected office holder. In 2006 she became Kaohsiung’s first female mayor, a position she has held to this day. In her speech the mayor will share her personal story and discuss the transformation of Taiwan and Kaohsiung over the last few decades. Her formal remarks will be followed by a conversation with CSIS’s Bonnie Glaser and a Q&A period with the audience.
This event is made possible through general support to CSIS.
