The State of Governance and Rule of Law in Uganda
Brought to you by
Join the CSIS Africa Program for a conversation with Agather Atuhaire, Uganda's award-winning investigative journalist and activist, and Nicholas Opiyo, a leader human rights lawyer and the founder of Chapter Four Uganda, a non-profit legal and advocacy organization.
Atuhaire has been a leading voice exposing the ongoing detention of opposition supporters held in military detention since the 2021 elections. She has also investigated corruption in different institutions in Uganda’s government, most recently profligate spending in the parliamentary leadership. Maria Burnett, CSIS non-resident Senior Associate, and Atuhaire will discuss her investigations into pervasive corruption in Uganda’s government and ongoing human rights abuses linked to the 2021 elections.
Nicholas Opiyo will join Burnett and Atuhaire to share initial reactions to the upcoming ruling by Uganda's Constitutional Court on the Anti-Homosexuality Act, the verdict of which will be issued on April 03, 2024.
This event is made possible through the generous support of Open Society Foundations.
