Statesmen's Forum: Jan Kubis, Slovak Foreign Minister
Foreign Minister Jan Kubis discussed his country's role in strengthening the Transatlantic partnership. The forum was organized in cooperation with the Embassy of Slovakia to the United States and Friends of Slovakia (FOS). Minister Kubis was accompanied by Ambassador Rastislav Kacer.
Jan Kubis was appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovakia in July 2006 after a long and prominent diplomatic career. Kubis was EU Special Representative for Central Asia for the period 2005-2006 and Secretary General for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) between 2000 and 2005. He also served as the United Nations special envoy to Tajikistan and head of the UN Mission of Military Observers in Tajikistan (UNMOT). From 1993 to 1994 Kubis was Permanent Representative of the Slovak Republic to the UN Office in Geneva, as well as to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade. Jan Kubis is fluent in English, Russian, and French.
The CSIS Statesmen's Forum is designed to provide government officials and global political leaders the opportunity to present their views about critical policy issues before a group of U.S. government executive and legislative branch officials, foreign diplomats, academic and regional experts, leaders from the corporate community, and the media.
