Transatlantic Trade and Climate: A Strategic Roadmap for 2024
Brought to you by
The transatlantic alliance witnessed a dynamic year in 2023 that saw ongoing efforts to secure trade and climate deals that would lay the foundations for a transatlantic green marketplace. Despite constant diplomatic engagement and earnest efforts on both sides of the Atlantic to advance a common agenda through forums such as the U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council and the talks surrounding the Global Arrangement on Sustainable Steel and Aluminum and a Critical Minerals Agreement, these efforts produced lackluster outcomes that potentially portend greater difficulties in standing up a transatlantic green marketplace. A recent series of reports from the Project on Trade and Technology investigated the differences and commonalities between the U.S. and EU approaches to transatlantic trade and climate policy and included a list of four policy priorities that would offer the transatlantic alliance the opportunity to build the foundations of future climate policy.
To discuss these new reports, please join the CSIS Project on Trade and Technology for a virtual armchair discussion between Emily Benson, Director of the Project on Trade and Technology, and Ilaria Mazzocco, Senior Fellow with the Trustee Chair in Chinese Business and Economics. The two experts will discuss the findings of the reports and discuss how the transatlantic alliance can use trade policy to protect and support positive climate outcomes.
This event will be livestreamed on February 26th from 1:00-1:45 PM EST.
This event is made possible by generous support from the European Climate Foundation.
