Ukraine - Eighteen Months After the Orange Revolution
Ambassador Oleh Shamshur, Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States, gave remarks addressing the current situation in the Ukraine eighteen months after the Orange Revolution, touching on politics, energy issues, and Ukraine's relations with its neighbors. He also discussed Ukrainian plans for European integration and possible NATO membership.
Oleh Shamshur was appointed Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States by President Yuschenko in December 2005. Before becoming Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States, he served as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. He also served as the Head of the European Union Department at the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2003 - 2004), and worked as a Minister/Counselor at the Embassy of Ukraine to the Benelux Countries (1998 - 2003). Ambassador Shamshur is fluent in English, French, and Russian, and holds a doctoral degree in history from Kyiv University.
