In partnership with Arctic Frontiers, please join us for a timely conversation on, "Understanding a New Ocean: The Policy Implications of a Transforming Arctic," as we discuss the implications of this year's sea ice extent, ice floes, coastal erosion, permafrost thaw, ocean acidification, and significant changes to the Greenland Ice Sheet. On September 28, the White House will host a first-of-its-kind Arctic Science Ministerial with various Arctic stakeholders to focus on Arctic science challenges and their regional and global implications, integrating Arctic observations and data sharing, and applying scientific understanding to build regional resilience and shape global responses. Our distinguished panelists will discuss the policy implications of these climate impacts as well as greater international scientific cooperation in the Arctic. In its final months as chair of the Arctic Council, what are the most critical U.S. priorities for the Arctic? What will be the Obama administration's enduring legacy in the Arctic region? What are the most critical areas of policy focus for the next U.S. administration?
This event is generously funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway and is in partnership with Arctic Frontiers, an international forum focused on sustainable development in the Arctic which holds its annual conference in Tromsø, Norway. The January 2017 conference, White Space - Blue Future, will explore environmental sustainability and economic growth in a rapidly transforming Arctic.
