The 2011 U.S.–France Bilateral Dialogue focused on the continuing challenges posed by global economic instability, the European sovereign debt crisis, and the “arc of  instability” including North Africa, the Middle East, and Afghanistan and Pakistan.  The program dedicated substantial time to examining the broader state of the transatlantic relationship, framed in the context of these major challenges.  Panel discussions addressed the geopolitical consequences of the financial crisis, the future of U.S. and European foreign and security policy, and the challenges posed by the most significant developments in the Middle East and South Asia.
