The U.S.-Philippines Mutual Defense Treaty at 70

The CSIS Southeast Asia Program is pleased to present a virtual event on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Mutual Defense Treaty between the Republic of the Philippines and the United States of America. This session will feature keynote remarks from Philippine Secretary of National Defense Delfin Lorenzana, followed by a panel discussion on the past, present, and future of the U.S.-Philippines alliance with Gen. Emmanuel T. Bautista (former chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines), Christopher Capozzola (professor of history at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology), and Charmaine Misalucha-Willoughby (associate professor at De La Salle University).
