U.S. - Romania: New Allies, New Challenges
Increased spending on public diplomacy initiatives and greater U.S. investment in the Central and East European states (CEE) were two of many recommendations made to strengthen U.S.-CEE relations at an international conference held at CSIS on Oct. 19, co-hosted by the CSIS East Europe Project and Romanian Radio Broadcasting Corporation (ROR). "It is imperative for Washington, Bucharest, and the CEE capitals to make efforts to guarantee the durability and dependability of their alliance," said Janusz Bugajski, CSIS East Europe Project director. The conference addressed ways to transform those efforts into a strategic defense relationship, by creating allies who are integral partners in international missions.
