U.S. Trade Relations with Africa and Outlook for the AGOA Forum

On June 6-8, 2011, Zambia will host the U.S.-Sub-Saharan Africa Trade and Economic Cooperation Forum (“AGOA Forum”).  The African Growth and Opportunity Act is the centerpiece of the United States government's trade policy with sub-Saharan Africa. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and USTR Ron Kirk, business leaders, and civil society from African countries and the United States will convene to promote trade, business, and investment opportunities that encourage economic development in Africa. The 2011 AGOA Forum’s theme is “Enhanced Trade through Increased Competitiveness, Value Addition and Deeper Regional Integration.”

This timely program will address issues and possible improvements to the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act as well as trade and capacity building, investment promotion and the business climate in Africa. Ambassador Demetrios Marantis will deliver the keynote address to be followed by a panel discussion.
