As expected, Sunday's presidential election in Venezuela saw the victory of Nicolás Maduro to succeed former president Hugo Chávez.  However, Maduro's much smaller than expected margin of victory - over challenger Henrique Capriles - less than two percentage points - and Capriles's call for a full recount has raised many questions over how the leadership transition will occur.  How will the current government handle the calls for a full recount?  Will Maduro's showing undermine his ability to govern, especially in holding together the various factions that comprise the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV)?  To answer these questions and more, the CSIS Americas Program is pleased to welcome noted Venezuelan analyst Pedro M. Burelli. Join us for this timely and informative discussion.

Open to the public, however, space is limited.  To RSVP, please send confirmation to the Americas Program at americas@csis.org
