Who Wins? Who Loses? The Six Faces of Globalization and Why It Matters

May 16, 2022 • 4:00 – 5:00 pm EDT

Will the war in Ukraine mark the end of globalization? Does the rupture between the West and Russia presage decoupling between the West and China? How do these developments impact the world’s ability to address the Covid-19 pandemic and the climate crisis?

Please join the CSIS Scholl Chair in International Business and the co-authors of Six Faces of Globalization, Nicolas Lamp and Anthea Roberts, for a discussion on the challenges of globalization. The book Six Faces of Globalization provides a framework for understanding the dramatic events of the past months in the context of competing narratives about the winners and losers from globalization. These narratives have shattered the post-Cold War consensus in favor of increased economic integration and have fundamentally recast the relationship between trade, security, economic resilience, and environmental sustainability. By mapping the trade-offs and value conflicts underlying this contest of narratives, the book develops an integrative way of thinking about the complex conflicts that will shape the future of globalization.

This event was made possible by general support to CSIS.
