World Energy Investment Challenges

On November 12, Claude Mandil, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency in Paris, spoke at CSIS on the new IEA publication, the World Energy Investment Outlook. The report forecasts that $16 trillion will need to be invested in the energy sector between now and 2030; two-thirds of this is needed for the electricity sector alone. This stunning amount is necessary to match the increased demand for energy and maintain the economic stability and growth. This is a 'wake up call' for governments as they craft energy policy and budgets.
