CSIS and the US-ASEAN Business Council Host First U.S.-Indo-Pacific Conference, April 5–6

WASHINGTON, April 7, 2022: The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and the US-ASEAN Business Council hosted the first annual U.S.-Indo-Pacific Conference on April 5–6, 2022. The two-day forum brought together senior U.S. government officials, corporate executives, and top scholars to discuss the most critical challenges and opportunities facing the region. Participants contributed to a variety of panel discussions, fireside chats, and keynote speeches on topics ranging from regional economic recovery to the clean energy transition.

“CSIS was thrilled to welcome senior figures from the U.S. and partner governments, industry, and academia to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the Indo-Pacific, from public health and the digital economy to climate change and geopolitics,” said John J. Hamre, president and CEO of CSIS. “U.S. national security and prosperity rest on the strength of its partnerships around the world, nowhere more so than among the countries of ASEAN and the Quad.”

US-ASEAN Business Council CEO and president Ambassador Ted Osius further noted, “We were proud to partner with CSIS to establish the preeminent conference on Southeast Asia and the Indo-Pacific in Washington, D.C. Home to over half of humanity, seven of the world’s largest militaries, and nine of the world’s ten busiest seaports, the Indo-Pacific is the single most consequential region for America’s future. We look forward to continuing these important conversations annually in future iterations of the U.S.-Indo-Pacific Conference.”

The event was made possible with support from 3M, Abbott, Amazon, Energy Capital Vietnam, Ford, Freeport-McMoRan, General Motors, Google, Marriott, Pfizer, Samtec, and Visa.
