WASHINGTON, DC – DECEMBER 11, 2023 – The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is pleased to announce that Omega Advisors Founder and Omega Family Office Chairman and CEO Leon Cooperman has been appointed to the CSIS Board of Trustees.
“CSIS has decided to significantly strengthen its focus on international commerce and economics,” said CSIS president and CEO John J. Hamre. “Mr. Cooperman's life-long experience as an analyst and investor will greatly aid us as we build our geoeconomics program in coming years.”
Cooperman founded the investment-management business, Omega Advisors, Inc., in 1991. He ran the business for 27 years before converting it to Omega Family Office at the end of 2018, where he now serves as Chairman and CEO. Prior to organizing and launching Omega Advisors, Cooperman worked at Goldman Sachs, where he served 15 years as a Partner. He also held the role of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Goldman Sachs Asset Management and Chief Investment Officer of the firm’s equity product line.
Prior to those appointments, Cooperman spent 22 years in the Investment Research Department as Partner-in-charge, Co-Chairman of the Investment Policy Committee, and Chairman of the Stock Selection Committee. For nine consecutive years, he was voted the number-one portfolio strategist in Institutional Investor’s annual “All-America Research Team” survey.
“CSIS has long been at the forefront of solutions to today’s most vexing foreign policy and national security issues,” said Mr. Cooperman. “I am honored to join CSIS’s Board of Trustees and look forward to the opportunity to support the Center’s continued success and growth in the critical areas of international commerce and economics.”
Cooperman is the recipient of myriad awards recognizing his professional accomplishments and commitment to philanthropy.
