CSIS Launches New ASEAN Leadership Forum Event Series

WASHINGTON, September 22, 2022: The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is pleased to announce the launch of the CSIS ASEAN Leadership Forum. This forum will provide a platform for senior officials from Southeast Asian countries and other key dialogue partners to address today’s pressing issues before a Washington, D.C.-based policy audience.

The CSIS ASEAN Leadership Forum’s inaugural event will take place on Monday, September 26, 2022, and will feature Dato Lim Jock Hoi, the 14th secretary-general of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). During this event, Lim will discuss the current state of ASEAN, as well as ASEAN-U.S. dialogue relations in advance of the annual ASEAN summit in November.

Future events in this series will examine topics of strategic significance to both the United States and its Southeast Asian partners, including security dynamics in Southeast Asia, economics and trade, technology, and more. These events will also feature remarks by senior leaders from Southeast Asia, the United States, and key partners. Findings from these discussions will inform written analyses and publications by the CSIS Southeast Asia Program, the premier forum for high-level policy dialogue on U.S. relations with the region.

Gregory B. Poling, senior fellow and director of the CSIS Southeast Asia Program, will lead the new initiative.

“The U.S. national interest requires durable strategic and economic partnerships in Southeast Asia, both on their own merits and as part of any effective competition with China,” said Poling. “After more than two years of virtual substitutes, CSIS is proud to once again provide a public platform for in-person engagements with regional leaders.”
