Leadership Shift Marks another Exciting Year for CSIS Energy & National Security Program

January 16, 2014

WASHINGTON, January 16, 2014 – The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) announced today that Sarah Ladislaw will take on the role of director of its Energy & National Security Program. Ladislaw has been serving as co-director of the program for the past 15 months, sharing responsibilities with David Pumphrey.

“Sarah is the perfect fit to lead our energy program,” said John J. Hamre, CSIS president, CEO, and Pritzker Chair. “With the United States enjoying the benefits of the boom in unconventional fuels, as well as continuing to focus on renewables and low-carbon energy, Sarah is well placed to drive CSIS’s leadership in articulating the national security implications of these phenomena and guiding smart policy solutions to address them.”

David Pumphrey will continue to collaborate on the program’s projects as he joins a distinguished group of senior advisers and the CSIS Schlesinger Chair for Energy and Geopolitics who help guide the strategic direction of the CSIS energy team. Pumphrey, who has been with the program for over six years, has extensive public-sector experience in international energy security issues.

“We cannot thank David enough for the sound guidance and leadership he has shown throughout his years here,” Hamre added. “We look forward to leveraging his keen intellect and long experience in the energy sector as we lean on his advice in his new role of senior adviser.”

The CSIS Energy & National Security program and the CSIS Schlesinger Chair look forward to an ambitious and dynamic year ahead, continuing their longstanding commitment to sound energy policy and market analysis across a range of issues.

The program, a leader in understanding the shifting global and domestic energy landscape, will be completing several initiatives, embarking on new projects, and maintaining its portfolio of expertise in a wide variety of energy issues for 2014. Continuing its collaboration with leaders in industry, government, academia, and the nonprofit sector, the CSIS Energy & National Security Program has planned projects that will help illuminate the opportunities and challenges expected to confront policymakers in the coming years and help decisionmakers craft smart energy policy that balances economic, environmental, and security priorities.
