Torkel Patterson is the managing director of Group Pacific Inc., an independent consulting firm specializing in international business development. He is also president of U.S.-Japan MAGLEV, LLC, which is teamed with Central Japan Railway Company (JRC) to market and deploy JRC Superconducting MAGLEV systems and technology to selected international markets, including the United States. Additionally, as a senior adviser to U.S.-Japan High Speed Rail, LLC, he supports JRC and U.S.-Japan High-Speed Rail efforts to introduce JRC’s N700-I Bullet train worldwide.
Mr. Patterson previously worked for more than six years with Raytheon Company, including more than four years as president of Raytheon International Inc., leading Raytheon’s international business development. He also served in a variety of posts in the U.S. government during three administrations, including as special assistant to the president for Asia, as deputy assistant secretary of state for South Asia, and as senior country director for Japan in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Mr. Patterson is a member of the Board of Governors of Pacific Forum CSIS; is a distinguished graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy; and was an Olmsted scholar at the University of Tsukuba in Ibaraki, Japan.
