Responding to Catastrophes: U.S. Innovation in a Vulnerable World
The PCR Project is pleased to announce the publication of Responding to Catastrophes: U.S. Innovation in a Vulnerable World. This comprehensive review of U.S. policy articulates a need to prioritize and focus response efforts by taking a more robust role in catastrophe management.
Evidence shows that humanitarian assistance in general has gained greater traction within the U.S. government, however, this has not yet translated into clear action or direction. The report examines major shortcomings in humanitarian response as it presently exists and proposes a framework for future engagement. These recommendations include refining military participation in humanitarian interventions, prioritizing crisis management within the formal government structures, and increasing corporate collaboration.
A distinguished panel will weigh in on these and other issues, including significant shifts in the humanitarian paradigm, the impact of an early warning system, and the importance of innovation on the domestic and international level.
