Contracting Abroad: The Role of Private Consulting in International Development

Part of the Careers in Development Series
Thursday, July 5, 2012 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Center for Strategic and International Studies 1800 K Street, NW Washington DC, 20006

Featuring:

John Acree
Senior Manager, International Resources Group

For-profit consulting firms, working with both the private and public sector, bring unique expertise and resources to the development industry. Government agencies and international organizations such as USAID and the World Bank award contracts to private firms on projects ranging from food security to good governance. John Acree, Senior Manager at the International Resources Group (IRG), has worked on many such projects with a specialization in post-conflict operations and humanitarian assistance. Mr. Acree most recently served as Director of USAID’s Stabilization Office in Afghanistan, managing a $1.6 billion program portfolio while also acting as the Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI) Country Representative. He also designed USAID’s Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) disaster risk reduction strategies and worked with U.S. government, the United Nations, and various non-governmental organizations to design the Operation Iraqi Freedom humanitarian response plan.
