Please join us for this important speech by Philippines Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima. Secretary Purisima will discuss new developments in the Philippine economy as a result of President Aquino’s reform program, and highlight new areas for cooperation with the United States. The government is ramping up its own spending to counteract global recessionary forces. The Philippines’ global competitiveness indicators are surging and the Department Finance has acted to sharply narrow the government’s budget deficit by increasing revenue collection and slashing wasteful spending.

The Hon. Purisima served in the government of the Republic of the Philippines as Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry in 2004 and Secretary of the Department of Finance in 2005. On July 1, 2010 he was reappointed as Secretary of the Department of Finance. He has also served as Chair and Member of the Board of many government companies including the National Power Corporation (NAPOCOR), the Land Bank of the Philippines, and the Monetary Board.
Secretary Purisima obtained his Bachelor of Science in Commerce, Majors in Accounting & Management of Financial Institutions from De La Salle University and his MBA from the JL Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
