Statesmen's Forum: Dr. Anna Cecilia Malmstrom, EU Trade Commissioner

TTIP and Beyond: Achieving Europe's Strategic Trade Goals
Monday, May 4, 2015 9:00 am - 10:15 am
Center for Strategic and International Studies2nd Floor Conference Room1616 Rhode Island Avenue, NWWashington, DC 20036

Please join us for a Statesmen’s Forum featuring the European Union’s Commissioner for Trade, Dr. Anna Cecilia Malmström. Following the conclusion of the 9th round of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) negotiations in New York, Commissioner Malmström will discuss the strategic goals Europe hopes to achieve through its trade policy during the Juncker Commission’s tenure. The EU has concluded trade negotiation with Canada, Singapore and neighbouring counties and is currently negotiating with the U.S., Japan, India and several ASEAN members. As Europe’s economic recovery gains momentum, free trade agreements can provide an additional boost to jobs and growth. Beyond these negotiations, the EU seeks to develop a WTO agenda beyond Doha that secures emerging economies' support for an open rules-based trading system, support for sustainable development and responsible supply chains and enhances European citizens' trust in trade policy. Commissioner Malmström will share the ways in which the Juncker Commission’s trade agenda advances all of these goals as well as her thoughts on the way ahead for the TTIP negotiations.
