A Conversation with Jorge L. Quijano, CEO of the Panama Canal Authority

Wednesday, May 20, 2015 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Center for Strategic and International Studies1616 Rhode Island Avenue, NWWashington, DC 20036

Celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2015, the Panama Canal is more relevant than ever. Nearly 14,000 vessels transit the Canal annually from 144 maritime routes connecting 160 countries and reaching some 1,700 ports around the world with safe, reliable, and efficient service.

As Panama has become the transportation and logistics hub of the Americas, the Panama Canal authority sits at the center, running the Canal, managing a massive watershed, and serving its customers. The Canal's Expansion Project will double the Canal's cargo capacity and fundamentally modify global trade routes. Moreover, it will create opportunity for the East and Gulf Coast ports here in the United States, introduce new segments such as Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), and launch new products and services to its customers.

From operations director, to expansion project manager, and now to CEO, Jorge L. Quijano has enjoyed a 39-year career at the Panama Canal Authority.
