Drawdowns in defense spending by the United States and many of its security partners have increased the urgency of leveraging and synthesizing national defense capabilities in support of shared interests. Please join us for a discussion on how the United States can build federated defense and security architectures with key allies and partners across the globe. A federated approach to security architectures can knit together a community that understands each other and works more closely and professionally every day. It is distinct from an integrated approach in that it respects the legitimate sensibilities of the United States and its partners regarding their sovereignty. This is a strategy that leans forward in a cost-effective way, building on the natural interest of allies and partners to have closer working ties with the United States while managing the various challenges that the economic and geostrategic environment present.

The event will kick off the Federated Defense Project, a multi-year effort that will draw on CSIS's broad range of expertise in U.S. and regional defense concepts, capabilities, posture, and relationships; regional security dynamics; U.S. and global trade and economic policy; and the global defense industry.
