Call to Action

Thursday, June 13, 2002 4:00 am - 4:00 am

On June 13, Sens. Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) and John Kerry (D-Mass.), co-chairs of the CSIS HIV/AIDS Task Force, presented the Task Forces seven-point "Call to Action" for U.S. leadership in battling the epidemic. Attending the event were members of the Task Force's eminent persons panel, including Richard Feachem, executive director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria, Peter Piot, executive director of UNAIDS, and U.S. Undersecretary of State for Global Affairs Paula Dobriansky. Task force reports on the destabilizing consequences of AIDS, implications of expanded anti-retroviral treatment, the Global Fund, and human rights and the violent transmission of HIV were also released at the event.
