"Fukuda Vs. Ozawa: Japanese Politics at the Crossroads?" with Hiroshi Hoshi
Mr. Hoshi is Senior Political Writer of The Asahi Shimbun. Before he assumed this position in 2000, he served as deputy editor of the political news department. He was based in Washington, D.C., from 1996 to 1998 as The Asahi Shimbun’s political correspondent, covering U.S. domestic politics and U.S.–Japan relations. Prior to this, he extensively covered Japanese politics and diplomacy in Tokyo. His assignments included the Prime Minister’s Office, the Liberal Democratic Party, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Mr. Hoshi joined The Asahi Shimbun in 1979 after he graduated from the College of Arts and Sciences of the University of Tokyo.
Since April 2002, he has been a regular commentator for "Sunday Project," a TV Asahi Sunday morning political talk show. Beginning in April 2004, he taught for two years in the graduate school of the University of Tokyo as a project professor. His publications include Jiminto To Sengo ("The Liberal Democratic Party and the Post-War Years,” Kodansha Gendai Shinsho), Terebi Seiji ("TV Politics," Asahi Sensho), and Abe Seiken no Nihon (“Japan under the Abe Administration,” Asahi Shinsho).
