Congressional Forum on Islam: Islam, Politics and the Resurgence of the State
Steven Heydemann is vice president of the USIP Grants and Fellowships program and a special adviser to the institute’s Muslim World Initiative. From 2003 to 2007, Heydemann directed the Center for Democracy and Civil Society at Georgetown University. From 1997 to 2001, he was an associate professor in the department of political science at Columbia University, and he worked for more than a decade in leadership positions at the Social Science Research Council on issues related to the Middle East, international peace and security, and philanthropy.
