Building Human Capital in an Aging Mexico: Demography, the Future Workforce, and Economic Competitiveness

The CSIS Global Aging Initiative and Mexico Project co-hosted a roundtable to explore how Mexico's looming age wave will affect its economy and society-and in particular, the need to invest in human capital. The roundtable, which was sponsored by Mexico's National Science and Technology Council (CONACYT), brought together a team of high-level experts from government, business, and public policy circles from both Mexico and the United States for an open discussion of relevant trends, best practices, and future strategies. CSIS Mexico Project Director Armand Peschard-Sverdrup and Global Aging Initiative Director Richard Jackson moderated the event. The roundtable discussion formed the basis for report that was published by the U.S.-Mexico Binational Council in July 2005.
