Social Security Reform: Is There a Bipartisan Solution?
David Walker (l), U.S. Comptroller General, and Peter G. Peterson, former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (2000-04), chairman of the Blackstone Group, and president of the Concord Coalition, joined a distinguished, bipartisan group of policy and opinion leaders at a joint CSIS Global Aging Initiative and Concord Coalition conference designed to get the increasingly polarized Social Security debate back on track. Political leaders from both parties—including former Sens. Warren Rudman (R-NH) and Don Nickles (R-OK), and former Reps. Tim Penny (D-MN) and Charles Stenholm (D-TX)—participated in a series of panel discussions on the dimensions of the Social Security challenge and prospects for a bipartisan solution.
