Briefing on President Bush's Visit to South Asia

Friday, February 24, 2006 5:00 am - 5:00 am

CSIS gathered together four of its experts to brief the media on President Bush's visit to South Asia.

Kurt Campbell, senior vice president, and director of the International Security Program, who served as deputy assistant secretary of defense for Asia and the Pacific, said the U.S.-India relationship is stronger than it often seems in the media.

Robert J. Einhorn, senior adviser in the International Security Program, who served as assistant secretary for nonproliferation at the Department of State, talked about nuclear cooperation between the two countries.

Michael Green, senior adviser and Japan Chair, who served as senior director for Asian affairs at the National Security Council, touched on the many facets of U.S.-Pakistan relations.

Ambassador Teresita Schaffer, director of the South Asia Program, who devoted most of her 30-year career in the Foreign Service to South Asia, said the U.S. and India need to "develop elements of a common vision of the world."
