U.S.-Japan Strategic Leadership Program

Monday, May 1, 2006 8:00 am - 8:00 am

The Japan Chair hosted a delegation of Japanese legislators, led by Foreign Minister Taro Aso, for a three-day seminar convened May 1-3, 2006.  Participants studied the role of Congress and other respective agencies in formulating national strategy.  The program also generated strategic thinking through tailored discussions of key regional and global issues and their impact on the U.S.-Japan Alliance.  The legislators also exchanged views with members of Congress on various occasions including a reception on Capitol Hill co-hosted by the Congressional Study Group on Japan.

The Foreign Minister was joined by the following Diet Members: the Hon. Tadamori Oshima (LDP), the Hon. Shigeru Ishiba (LDP), the Hon. Katsuhito Asano (LDP), the Hon. Itsunori Onodera (LDP), the Hon. Akihisa Nagashima (DPJ), the Hon. Shuji Kira (DPJ), and the Hon. Yasutoshi Nishimura (LDP).
