Report Launch: Benchmarking the Business of Agriculture

Wednesday, July 13, 2016 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
CSIS Headquarters

Rule of law, transparency, and government reforms are critical to create an enabling environment and to sustain progress in global food security. Country-led reforms and strengthening legal frameworks are a prominent part of U.S. food security programming, and is of strong interest to private sector operators evaluating growth opportunities in emerging markets. With the Feed the Future initiative placing such an emphasis on country ownership, an understanding of the legal and institutional infrastructure needed to support expanded private sector investment in value chains is integral to improve foreign assistance programs in this administration and beyond.

Please join the CSIS Global Food Security Project for a discussion with Federicka Saliola of the World Bank, Ambassador Chum Bun Rong of Cambodia (invited), Justin Finnegan of USAID’s Bureau for Food Security, and a representative from Archer Daniels Midland Co., to discuss the value of benchmarking a country’s progress in creating an enabling environment for agricultural growth. The program will officially launch the new CSIS report Benchmarking Business in Agriculture, which provides analysis on tools that track the policy environment for agriculture and suggests how the private sector, donors, and governments can best utilize agricultural indices, such as the World Bank’s newly released Enabling the Business of Agriculture.
