Implementing Innovation Series: A Look at Using Public-Private Partnerships to Invest in Defense Infrastructure

Lessons from Military Housing Privatization 1996-2016
Tuesday, October 18, 2016 10:00 am - 11:30 am
CSIS Headquarters
This event is part of the Implementing Innovation Series at CSIS that seeks to move the discussion on innovation beyond a narrow focus on developing technology to include examining how we can innovate and improve outcomes throughout the Department of Defense’s operations. The public-private partnership used to substantially modernize and improve military family housing in the 1990s and 2000s is one example of how using an innovative investment paradigm enabled a rapid quality of life improvement in an important aspect of the Department’s operations. This event will explore whether this or a similar public-private model could be used more broadly to help revitalize the Department’s infrastructure.

This event will begin with an introduction by the former Secretary of the Navy, Richard J. Danzig and proceed with remarks from Mahlon "Sandy" Apgar IV, the former Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations and Environment. Following these introductory remarks, there will be a panel discussion, moderated by Andrew Hunter, and questions from the audience.
